So Adam took the computer over to his buddy's house this evening. They began by plugging the computer in, and turning it on so Adam could show him what the computer was saying to determine if the issue was the operating system or the motherboard. It proceeded to turn on and power up normally. It's fine. And that's that. Duh.
(I did immediately transfer all my files onto our external hard drive, however. I'm not taking any chances.)

I had a similar problem-I just turned the computer off for a week, when I turned it on it worked! Guess it just needed a rest!
