Jesus, Justice & Jazz

It's all a memory now. The national youth gathering is over. A great time was had by all. I say thank you to those of you who took their cameras and took pictures....and thank you because I'm stealing all these pictures from you...LOL!!

These are in no particular order...I'm being lazy tonite!! (The captions are before the picture...jsyk)

Houses marked this way after inspections from hurricane devastation. The top is the date, left is who checked the home, right is how many pets were found dead and bottom is how many people were found dead

Water mark

Scott and Ingrid, 2 of the 3 chaperones. Adam loved them both! Scott was one of Adam's roommates. He is a Vicar at one of the Lutheran churches nearby

See what I mean about the orange shirts, Jamie?!!!?

On the plane. That's Carlo hugging Adam...not sure why!

Just a neat pic!

Downtown New Orleans

Who's under that mask?!?!?!?

Getting ready to leave on their trip...taken at 6:30 in the morning...they actually look half awake...LOL!!

Krista and Adam

Michelle, Jim, Jessie and Adam....Jim moved down to Biloxi to help re-build houses after Katrina. Originally Jim planned on being a chaperone for this gathering until he took this new job. He and his wife drove over to New Orleans to meet our kids for breakfast on Saturday morning.

Jessie and Adam....they go waayy back, they've known each other since they were toddlers at church. Jessies likes to talk about how she pushed Adam off the piano bench many years ago in the one Sunday School room. I think she'd have a rough time accomplishing that NOW...LOL!!

The inside of one of the houses in New Orleans...devastating.

Their first day there on a boat ride

At breakfast on Saturday with Jim and Michelle. From L to R: Adam, Carlo, Meghan and Ingrid

This says it all

Touring a cemetery

Dinner the last night

Our kids wrote the name of their church and hometown on these clothespins. You then secretly clipped them to someone, which hopefully they found later!

I'm guessing this is fake, but not 100% sure about that!

Cool pic!!

Teaser

Here's just a little teaser for more pics to come from the National Youth Gathering this past week in New Orleans. Since Sir Adam didn't take his camera, I have to wait until other pics begin appear on Facebook, so I can 'borrow' them for my blog!! I'll accumulate a few and post them later on this week.

And Again!

Thanks to Sue from church, I found this picture on the ELCA's web site of our gang!! How cool is that?!?! (Since my son didn't take his camera...nor has he called us....I'm guessing he may have talked to other certain individuals of the female persuasion....won't mention any names....LOL!!)

New Orleans!

Just a portion of Adam's 37,000 friends in the SuperDome in New Orleans!! Tonite was the opening ceremony of the Lutheran National Youth Gathering. Kurt and I were able to watch it live on-line! This pic was taken with Adam's phone; he then uploaded it to his Facebook...and I stole it...LOL!!

My Sunday

Adam and Erika celebrated one year of being boyfriend/girlfriend today. He got her a dozen roses and two pairs of shoes (Oh, and I was just reminded...he gave her a digital picture frame, too!). I know...I found shoes quite an odd 'anniversary' gift, but he insisted that was what she wanted. When she opened them, I could tell she was more than pleased! She got him two tickets to see one of his favorite bands at a local under 21 club in Allentown. They spent the whole day together...he picked her up for church this am, they had lunch with us, then went to Lost River Caverns and he's still not home (although he better be home by 11 pm..he can't drive past then...LOL! He will be...he's really good about that!!)

Later in the day, Jamie and Josslyn came over and we went through EIGHT tubs of clothing that Adam and Alyssa wore many years ago. I had all the clothing up in the attic and decided it was time to get rid of it. Before I just took it to Good Will, I asked Jamie if she wanted to go through it. I was expecting there to be mostly girl clothing...til it was all said and done, I think she left with more stuff for Jonathan than she did Josslyn!! The stuff she didn't keep got divided into a Good Will pile and a throw away pile (some of it had stains on it I didn't even know existed...LOL!!). I was just obligated to take a couple pics of Josslyn!!

IKEA!

Alyssa and I met Sarah and her mom at Ikea in Conshohocken on Thursday to pick up the remaining items they need for their apartment for when they move in next month. They didn't manage to find everything they wanted there, so we made additional stops at Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond after enjoying lunch at Saladworks. The two big purchases at Ikea included a desk for each of the girls ($24.99/desk) and a small table with a shelf underneath to hold the TV ($30). The desks are very basic, only have a pull out for a keyboard...no drawers, nothing. The apartment they are moving in to is 'furnished', but didn't include desks, and they both kind of could use somewhere to do homework, put their laptops, etc. The only other huge-ish issue is that the apartment comes with a set of bunk beds and neither of them want to sleep in the top or bottom bunk! Hmmm...could be a problem! The current plan includes trying to dis-assemble the bunk beds, store them somewhere (who knows where) and bring twin beds for them to sleep in. Problem is...neither of them have twin beds to spare...LOL!! We think we may have a lead on two beds...apparently Kurt and his brother Chris slept in bunk beds, that can also serve as twin beds, and are supposed to be in the attic of their parents' old house. Just knowing that Kurt and Chris slept in these beds is concerning to me, however...this means that they are probably at least 40 years old (the beds..not Kurt and Chris...they are older...LOL!!) Our intention is to check them out next weekend and see if these beds are a viable option. If the frames are good, then the plan would be to use the mattresses that are in the current bunk beds in the apartment. I'm hoping our lead pans out, cuz I'm not so interested in having to get a new mattress/box spring at this point.

CHARGE!! (Note the pink toilet bowl cleaner!!)

The new shower curtain

Mom...STOP.

That's some huge ceiling fan!
