One of the guys that works with Kurt, and has a daughter that also attended Northampton High School emailed Kurt these pics today. We had no clue this even existed, let alone had Adam's name there :)

Two More
One of Erika's friends was inducted into the National Honor Society last week, too. Her dad actually works with Kurt and took the following two pics and emailed them to him today. I'm so glad he did, cuz it's two of the nicest pics. First, I didn't realize I didn't have my flash on my camera til I was almost done taking pictures and second, I wasn't in such a good position for some of shots.

NHS
Adam was inducted into the National Honor Society this evening. What a proud moment for both Kurt and me!! There were 5 seniors, and a slew of juniors (one of them being Erika) inducted!
Signing the book. This book has everyone's signature who has ever been inducted at Northampton High School:
Mrs. Wilkin, one of the Chemistry teachers at the high school. She was one of the advisors when Alyssa was inducted in 2006. She was asked by the kids to be the special guest speaker. They all love her!
Adam enjoying Mrs. Wilkin. He is one of her lab aides (last year and now this year, too), even though he does not have her for any of his classes. She told me tonight that Adam's a smart kid even though he gets on her nerves sometimes....LOL!! I told her I knew what she was talking about...ha ha!!
Dr. Firestone, school superintendent....she announced her retirement at this week's school board meeting. She will finish the year out, then she and her husband will be relocating to the southwest. I introduced myself to her tonight, as she and her husband attend Martha and Ferdinand's former church.

Yay!
This guy has been chosen to be on Northampton High School's Scholastic Scrimmage team to be shown on PBS Channel 39 in a couple of weeks!! They will compete against another high school in the area. Four students, plus one alternate are chosen. Apparently all the students who participate in the Scholastic Scrimmage club at school compete to answer questions correctly and the top four answerers are picked to be on the television show. According to Adam, he answered the most questions correctly today! His buddy Richard was also chosen.Tuesday, September 02, 2008
First Day, Junior Year
OK, guys, this is about the only time of the year that you get a post at 6:30 in the morning! Today is Adam's first day of school and as has been the tradition, I get up for that first day to take the annual first day of school pic. And he knew it was coming....he said, "Ok, Mom, get your pic out of the way, I gotta go!"
We thought we were gonna have a fight this year about driving, but I believe we came to an amicable agreement. He asked me the other day how often he was going to be allowed to drive to school this year....I had already given it some thought and felt that three days per week was acceptable. I was afraid he was going to want to drive every day, but he was actually ok with my suggestion. He did, however, ask if the two days that he has to take the bus, if he could then go to Erika's (more about that later) after school and I would pick him up on my way home from work. I told him I couldn't promise that.
He's gonna have a rough year, he has AP Economics, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, Honors Physics, Honors Spanish III and English. We never recommended Alyssa take more than one AP class at a time, so this could be interesting. He can certainly do it, I just hope he applies himself. I'm hoping that Erika is a good influence on him....she's a tenth grader and has AP Calculus (with him actually) and mostly honors classes, as well.

Cargo Update
I'm a bit p/o'd (abbreviation for pissed off...LOL!). There was an article in the paper yesterday morning saying the school district is reconsidering the ban on cargo pants/shorts. This is after we bought Adam brand new cargo shorts, cuz they were the only ones we could find, and he (neatly) took the pockets off of them. Make up your minds, you morons!

Congratulations!
Well, it's over...she did it!! Congratulations Alyssa....2007 graduate of NASD!
We got lost going to Stabler Arena...that was only after we got caught up in a very, very long line of traffic. I called my friend Kathy from church, who is originally from that area in Bethlehem, to get us out of the traffic jam and help us take a shortcut. She was gracious enough to stay on the phone with me as we went up over the mountain. We got to the top of the mountain, went the wrong way, and lost phone service all at the same time!! By the time we realized where we were, and that we needed to turn around, Kathy's daughter had called Alyssa and gotten my cell phone number. Kathy called and got us back on track...and before we knew it, we were there. We were in our seats by 6 p.m., but graduation didn't begin until 7! We had great seats...only four rows back and on the same side that Alyssa was sitting. Because of being in the National Honor Society, she managed to end up in the first row!
Close up of front row (Alyssa is right under her name!)The ceremony itself was quite long. It wasn't over until almost 10 pm. It was mass confusion afterwards! I'm not sure how anyone found anybody! Sarah and her family, Karlie and her family and our family went to Perkins afterwards. I think we went there intending to get desserts, but we all ended up eating appetizers and entrees, PLUS desserts! We had a very nice time. There were quite a few other graduates' families there, as well.

Academic Awards Banquet
In addition to Alyssa being honored for her academic achievement (GPA > 3.8), she received two additional scholarships tonight. She was honored with the Senior High PTA scholarship for $300 and the Northampton Exchange Club scholarship for $500. With the previous one she heard about, she has now received a total of $1,000 in scholarship monies. She is very grateful to the organizations who considered her worthy of these awards. She also received a $50 Borders gift card.

More Pics
Cover of the DVD
(The DVD was made by one of the junior students and shown during the banquet)
That's Alyssa's hand in the forefront!!
Band-O's
I guess that's what kids who are in the band are called at school. I think those band-o's are just as important as the football players on the field! I am so glad Alyssa had the opportunity this year to participate in marching band, even if it was only on a part time basis. Tonite was the annual band banquet where the seniors were honored. Unfortunately, the band director's mother died earlier this week and he was not able to be at the banquet this evening. Our sympathies certainly go to him and his family, but I must say it wasn't the same without him.
All the seniors
Being goofy.
