She Won.....Kinda!
So Alyssa wanted to spend her birthday money on a designer Dooney & Bourke purse that could cost up to $200. As a parent, I felt the need to step in and not allow her to do it. I realize it was her own money that she would be wasting, but I thought that part of my job as a parent was to help her make wise decisions. We were at a party recently and this whole issue came up; well, everyone was AGAINST me. They all felt that she could do with her money what she wanted to, even if it meant she was wasting it. Despite being in the minority, I didn't give in and she didn't get her purse.
Well, today she had the opportunity to make some purchases at a party and she didn't get just one purse, she got two purses, a wallet and a scarf for probably 1/2 the price of one D&B purse.

ugh. i am SO jealous...darn those eagles!!!
cute star purse!
My initial reaction was also-but it's her money, let her spend it however. (We're such an independant society) But that's our job, right? To figure out when when we should and shouldn't step in. You know your child & your child's personality so you would know best when a lesson would be learned by letting her waste, I mean spend, her money. Or when everyone's best interests are served by stepping in.
That is so men from you. You prevented her from having something she really wanted and probbly she longed for for ages and what did she got in stead some equally useless things that actually doens't mean anything to her but just for the fac that they are more things you think she is making a best price-utility judgement... so much for quality and design....HOW AWFULL OF YOU
