The Do's
We have an appointment on Thursday night to have our pictures taken for the new pictoral directory at church. We all needed trims....some more than others (Adam...)! Between yesterday and today, that task was accomplished thanks to Holiday Hair for me and Adam, while I cut Kurt's hair. I'm not at all excited about having these pictures done, because Alyssa won't be in the pic. There are two Saturdays available, both are not options to get her home. We can submit a picture of her, which I plan on doing, but it's still not gonna be the same. I know I won't be buying any of the pictures.

It's Free!
I didn't believe it until I tried it! Google has a FREE service to locate business phone numbers...just dial 1-800-GOOG-411...follow the prompts....it'll even connect you to the business. Try it! (And, I promise.....really.....it's free!!)
Lasagna!
I got the hankering for lasagna today, although I didn't start making it until almost 5 pm. I needed to make spaghetti sauce and when I make that, I make a huge pot, so I have leftovers to freeze. Til I got home from the grocery store, made the sauce (almost burned the ground beef cuz I was on the phone....thanks loads Martha!), and put the lasagna together, I didn't get it into the oven til almost 6:15! But that's Ok, because Kurt and Adam left at 5:30 to go get some truck part at Pep Boys, so I figure it's not gonna matter if we don't eat til close to 8 pm!
I had enough supplies to make one big pan for us and two smaller ones...one for Kurt next weekend when he's alone for the weekend, and one for a local invalid I'm related to and her hubbie....
I found these in the refrigerated section at Wegman's and was anxious to try them. It does suggest that they be cooked ahead of time, but only for four minutes. I stopped cooking my lasagna noodles ahead of time years ago, so we'll see how these turn out, because I didn't cook these either.
I only needed three sheets for each layer in the big dish, and the smaller disposable pans took one that I actually needed to trim down about a 1/4 inch.

On Parking
Adam and I drove up to the Snydersville driver's testing place after school today so he could practice his parallel parking. I really wanted to get out of the car to take a better picture, but there were two other cars there, as well. We were taking turns parking. I would have felt a little silly getting out and taking a picture of Adam parallel parking! He parked correctly about 8/11 times. The three times he didn't make it, he touched the curb with his front tire (and we all know what happens when you touch the curb while parallel parking, don't we, Alyssa.....LOL!!!) At one point, some kid drove up in a Chevy Suburban and parked correctly the first time! We hoped that wasn't the absolute first time he did that!
Technically, you're supposed to be within 12 inches of the curb when done parking in the spot. When Alyssa took her test (the second time) and she successfully parked in this spot, she said she wasn't even straight in the spot and he said, "Fine, pull out..." So who knows how it'll be for Adam? We'll let you know how things go after his test next Wednesday morning!

Breakfast For Supper
(Very much disliked by Kurt)
I have two containers of ham left from Easter dinner which need to be eaten. Instead of just eating plain ham, I decided to make one of my favorite dishes. It's just potatoes, ham, onions and eggs fried together. It doesn't take much preparation, and it's quick and easy. I boiled the potatoes the night before, so when I got home from work last night all I needed to do was fry the potatoes, ham and onions in a frying pan with some oil and butter, added some seasoning and threw in the eggs at the last minute and just mixed it all together.
There was just one small glitch...I swore I had more eggs. I opened the carton and there sat two lonely eggs! I had to ask Kurt to run out and get me a dozen eggs at the little market in the middle of town.
For 'dessert' I made a can of those Pillsbury cinnamon buns. Kurt was a good sport and ate breakfast for supper without any complaints. I probably shouldn't try doing anything like this again for a while though!!

Fridge Update
Kurt finally called Sears the other day; we do indeed have a three year warranty (that we paid extra for, I might add..LOL!). That is soooo unusual, as Kurt NEVER gets the extended warranty on anything! We have one year left on it. He explained what happened and also mentioned that the other shelf on the top also has a crack on the white plastic/metal surrounding the glass. They are sending us out three new shelves...yay!

On Friends and Sweetness
It's been a bit rough at work the past week or so. One of the girls that works with us in the 'clinical' area had a baby on Easter day. That leaves three of us to do the work of four. We've all been having some rough days that have been very busy. Today was one of those days for me. I failed to bring lunch with me (thinking I would have the opportunity to run out and pick something up...) and as one o'clock rolled around and I was about two hours behind in everything and had two piles of charts to get through, I knew that the option of running out to pick something up was out of the question.
About ten minutes past one, a little voice behind me (Jamie) asked me if I was gonna go out to get my lunch. I informed her that, nope, it wasn't gonna happen. This was about twenty minutes after she had heard my belly let out this long, noisy grumble...LOL! Next thing she's offering me her apple...or her banana....or her mandarin oranges. Very thankful for her offer, I declined saying I didn't want to eat all her food.
I continued trying to get myself caught up and next thing there's a plate being set on my desk. It's a combination of an apple, banana and mandarin oranges on a paper plate cup up into a fruit salad!
Thanks, friend!

V-Dub
So you remember the story that Adam had poked a hole in something in his car which prevented him from being able to have the car inspected? Well, he and Kurt fixed it and finally took the car to get it inspected last Thursday and IT PASSED!!! He's in seventh heaven! On Sunday, we had to visit the relatives in Fogelsville, so he could drive his VW down to show his Uncle Chris! He and Kurt drove in his car and Mom and I drove with Alyssa in her car. Before we even got out of the driveway, he had to stop and readjust something under the hood. Then by the time we got to the end of our road, he stopped with the four ways flashing (I guess I was impressed they even worked....LOL!!). At this point, I assumed we were gonna have to tow the car back home, but it turned out he needed to clean the windshield, cuz he couldn't see!!
He goes for his driver's test next Wednesday, April 2nd. He's hardly done any parallel parking. About three weeks ago, we were meeting Kurt for dinner one evening, and we stopped at one of the local schools that Alyssa and I spent many, many, many hours at practicing parallel parking. Ironically we were in the (huge) trailblazer and after missing the first time, he successfully parked it three times in a row! If he can park that monster, I can't imagine that little tiny VW is gonna be a problem...LOL!!!

Love/Hate
I have a love/hate relationship with this stadium. I can't wait to see it on the horizon when we're on our way to pick Alyssa up, or we're going to visit her....I just LOOVVVEEEE it! I'd like to blow it up (not literally folks...LOL!) on days that we're returning her to school (like today) and leaving her there and going back home.

Human Tuner
Adam has now purchased the guitar from this kid at school. He needed to replace the strings, and while at the guitar shop, he bought an electronic tuner (I have no clue how it works...LOL!). I caught Kurt trying to figure out, I think, if it worked...
Etc.
Alyssa's break was over this past Sunday (Palm Sunday) and she was kinda hoping to be able to come home for Easter, but didn't have any extra time off besides the weekend. I was dreading taking her back this past Sunday, then having to pick her up today and then return her again on Easter Sunday. It just seemed like an awful lot of driving, but really wanted to have her home this weekend. At one point, I thought that she might be able to drive back to PSU herself, leave her car at our nephew's house, then drive herself home today. I was nervous even thinking about that, as it would be the first time she drove to and from PSU by herself, plus she's never really driven there in any of our trips up there, and only has driven the car twice on return trips. So for weeks, I went back and forth trying to figure out what to do. It ended up being a last minute decision, as there were forecasts for possible snow on Palm Sunday. It turned out to be a beautiful day and we allowed her to drive. I was on pins and needles the whole time! I prayed that she would be delivered safely to her destination. Turns out she got there without any problems, didn't get lost once, and is back home again today, again without incident. I knew that I needed to suck it up at some point and let her do this, because come August she's gonna want to have her car up there.
So she got home at 7 tonite, and promptly left at 730 to meet friends for dinner. Whoosh....!!! My mom and I will take her back on Monday morning, as her first class on Monday's isn't until noon. That will work out nicer, so we have all of Easter Sunday to relax and not have to worry about a six hour drive!
My buddy Frodo....awake....
and asleep...
What's in that water?!!?!
The tele-monitor used by our local home care agency to transmit vital signs to their office. Reports are then faxed to the patient's physician's office. It records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry (level of oxygen in blood), weight (there's a scale sitting on the floor beneath the monitor). It is also capable of asking about 40 yes/no questions (chosen based on patient's condition). Once all functions have been completed, the data is transmitted to the home care office via either satellite or phone line. If there are any abnormals, someone calls from the office, speaks with the patient, then either asks the patient to repeat some of the data, or contacts the physician's office with the abnormalities. I was quite interested in seeing how this worked, as I am on the receiving end of these reports in our office, so it was neat to hear how it worked and see what it looked like. A friend of a friend of a friend (and so on and so on) had surgery recently, and this was set up for her. I happened to be there as the RN was getting it ready.

The Good
The Bad
The Ugly
Twas the night before Palm Sunday (OK, it was just after midnight..)
And all thru the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse (OK, Alyssa was upstairs packing)
I was cleaning up after having made soup,
Which was enough for a very large group.
When what to my wondering ears did I hear,
But a very loud, humongous sounding crash!
It sounded like the ice in the freezer falling down,
But to my surprise, it was the top shelf in the fridge shattering....ker plash!
I just about died and could've really cried,
But called my trustworthy buddy Alyssa, who came flying down to stay by my side (That was a good one, huh?!?!)
We straightened and cleaned it all up,
And look forward to morning, when Kurt says, "Wassup?" (OK, coulda' been better, but I'm tired...)
